| 5/2/08 - Aruba Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ARUN) announced that Ohio Wesleyan University has selected and commenced deployment of Aruba's 802.11n adaptive wireless LANs across its Delaware, Ohio, campus. Ohio Wesleyan University is one of the nation's leading liberal arts universities with138 full-time faculty members and 1,850 students drawn from across the world.
The broadband wireless network will transform the lives of its students through a combination of rigorous academics, mentoring relationships, and real-world experiences. Aruba was selected for the university's wireless project on the strength of a competitively priced, technically superior response to an open bid, and following strong references from peer liberal arts colleges. The campus had wireless access points in some areas, but sought to expand access throughout its campus. The wireless network will consist of redundant centralized MMC-6000 Multi-Service Mobility Controllers and more than 400 Aruba AP-124 and AP-125 802.11n access points spread across 50 academic, administrative, athletic, and residential facilities. The AP-124 access points will be used with remote antennas to provide wireless coverage outdoors. "Ohio Wesleyan's purchase of 802.11n technology not only places us on the cutting edge of WLAN technology, but going with this technology is cost-effective because we will not have to upgrade our wireless equipment any time soon," said Dr. Theresa Byrd, Chief Information Officer and Director of Libraries. "We believe the new WLAN will provide our students and faculty with all the conveniences that come with an untethered, mobile computing environment, allowing them to access the Internet and other applications from any place on campus. Because 802.11n is almost six times faster than earlier wireless technology, it is conceivable that students may begin to use their laptops and wireless technology more than the wired network." Jason LaMar, Ohio Wesleyan's Director of Information Services and project director for the wireless implementation, said, "This initiative provides a clear, compelling, and distinct roadmap for short- and long-term wireless implementation in our environment." By automatically adapting the network to accommodate user behavior, interference, and nearby networks, Aruba simplifies wireless LAN set-up and operation. Aruba's vendor-neutral AirWave Wireless Management Suite reduces the cost and bother of technology migrations by simultaneously managing new and legacy devices from more than 16 different vendors: migrations can be staged on a schedule, and a budget, that meets their needs.
