| 04/04/08 - Wireless mesh network equipment made by Tranzeo Wireless Technologies Inc. (TSX:TZT), a leading producer of high-performance wireless broadband and WiMAX communication systems, will be used to provide wireless Internet access throughout the city of Culiacan, Mexico. The project, "Culiacan: Technological City" is part of an overall plan to improve one of the countries fastest growing cities through 2010.
Through PacificNet, a Tranzeo distributor, Tranzeo's mesh radios will be deployed over 30 square kilometers providing the residents of Culiacan uninterrupted reliable broadband wireless access and Internet connectivity. The initiative is initially expected to provide wireless access to more than 65,000 business and residential users.
"We are pleased that Tranzeo's equipment was selected for this historic deployment," commented Tranzeo President and CEO, Jim Tocher. "Additionally, Tranzeo is proud to have had its product recommended in four of the seven proposals received by the city of Culiacan."
"The goal of this project is to close the digital gap in Culiacan, to provide wireless access to those who do not have it and can not afford it. By working with Tranzeo's radio technology, the city of Culiacan will enable many of its residents to work from home, provide much needed advancements in the city's technology infrastructure, and attract more business and tourism dollars to Culiacan," said Culiacan Mayor, Jesus Vizcarra Calderon.
To date, this project is the largest wireless broadband deployment in all of Mexico and will focus on low-income areas and the student population.
An initial comprehensive site survey began in Culiacan in March and the project will be completed by the end of 2008.
