The flexibility and viability of WLANs - no matter what the standard - is why this technology has become so popular. WLANs have the ability to operate in two modes: ad-hoc and infrastructure. Ad-hoc, or peer-to- peer mode, allows users to share files directly while operating in project workgroups, without connectivity to an access point. Infrastructure mode allows a mobile client equipped with an 802.11b network interface card to communicate directly with an access point, providing access to enterprise services and resources. | |
